Information - NOTICE OF PAYROLL TAX RATE CHANGE
On March 17, 2003the Simpson County Fiscal Court enacted Ordinance #220.99 creating a .75% payroll tax on all persons engaged in employment in Simpson County. Ordinance #220.99 was amended on December 28, 2004- Ordinance #220.107.

On June 4th, 2019, Fiscal Court approved an occupational tax rate change from .75% to 1% and also removed the FICA cap effective 7/1/19.
ORDINANCE 220.204 - AMENDING ORDINANCE 220.129 TO MODIFY THE OCCUPATIONAL TAX RATE EFFECTIVE 7/1/19 TO 1.0% AND REMOVE SECTION 3, PARAGRAPH 3(g) REFERENCING THE FEDERAL FICA WITHHOLDING IN SIMPSON COUNTY, KENTUCKY. ALL WAGES, BONUSES, SALARIES OR INCENTIVE PAYMENTS WILL BE SUBJECT TO THE TAX RATE 1.0% EFFECTIVE 7/1/19.


The tax rate prior to 7/1/19 is 0.75%.

This fee is assessed on all gross wages, salaries, commissions or other compensation earned by an employee for work performed or services rendered in Simpson County. Exceptions to this include retirement benefits, disability, unemployment benefits, worker's compensation, and applicable wages. Bonuses or salaries that exceed the limit are subject to FICA withholding.

The fee became effective April 1, 2003 and is payable quarterly for the periods ending March 31, June 30, September 30 & December 31. The fee is due on or before the last day of the month following the period end. The county provides all the necessary forms required to remit this fee.

All new employers should complete the registration form in the attachment below and return to us as soon as possible. This form can be faxed to (270) 598-8914 or e-mailed to the address above. This will insure that all eligible persons are in the database. The ordinance does carry the force of law and imposes penalties and fines to persons who do not comply.

Occupational Tax Forms
New interactive PDF tax forms for Taxpayer convenience. These .PDF documents have been created so that you can use them just as you would any online document. Save the forms to your computer, fill in the forms and then print and mail. Using the mouse move the hand, Adobe Reader's Hand"Hand" icon to point at the first field and click the left mouse button, you may type into the field and then tab to the next one. Using just the keyboard simply hit the Tab key to move cursor to the first field for editing, Tab again to move on to the next field and continue tabbing until form fields are all filled in. Some interactive fields have a slight gray frame around them so that they are easier to find. Our forms currently do not allow for electronic signatures and must be printed and mailed to the Occupational License Fee office.

TIPS FOR USING INTERACTIVE TAX FORMS

If you have a hard time reading the tax forms simply increase the magnification of the entire page, do this by clicking the plus sign (+) above the tax form on the tool bar.

To navigate through the interactive fields on the tax form use the Tab key, hitting the tab key will put the cursor in the first field on the form ready for editing (typing). Upon finishing the first field hit the Tab key to move to the next field for editing, continue tabbing through the form until complete. You may also point with the mouse and click into fields for editing.

When you have completed the tax form click the Print button to print copies for yourself and the Tax Administrator. Also, the tax form can be saved on a computer hard drive or some other storage device for your records. Click the Save button on the tool bar and select where to save the file in the Save In selection box, next name the tax form file and click Save. Be sure and give the tax form file a logical name so you can easily find and view the tax form at a later date if desired.
