The City of Longmont is governed by a seven member Council. The Mayor is elected to serve a two-year term and each Council member is elected to serve a four-year term. The Mayor and Council members are the leaders and policy makers in the community elected to represent various segments of the community and to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to residents' needs and wishes.
Recreation Services builds community through evolving, affordable recreation and leisure opportunities which encourage well being and enhance the quality of life.

Longmont Public Safety comprises just under 300 employees that provide 24-hour, 365 days-a-year emergency services to the residents of the City of Longmont.

Boulder DA Releases Decision Letter on Officer Involved Shooting
On June 15, 2023, a Longmont Officer discharged his firearm in the 2100 Block of Stuart Street. The officer was placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation. The details of this incident is outlined in the decision letter released today by the Boulder County DA's Office.
