2023 Updates
PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2023 the following Tax Rate and Fee Changes for the City of Englewood:
- The City of Englewood, Colorado local Sales and Use Tax Rate increases from 3.5% to 3.8%. This change affects taxable transactions in January 2023 and thereafter.
- The Medical Marijuana Sales and Use Tax Rate increases from 3.5% to 3.8%
- The Retail Marijuana Sales and Use Tax Rate increases from 10.0% to 10.3%
- The Waste Transfer Surcharge Fee increases from $0.50 per cubic yard to $0.63 per cubic yard
- Colorado House Bill HB 21-1162 (signed into law in 2021) states that single use plastic bags are effectively banned as of January 1, 2024. Effective January 1, 2023, a $0.10 per bag fee is charged to customers for recycled paper bags and single use plastic bags that the business provides to the customer. Businesses are to remit 60% of the bag fees collected to the City of Englewood on a quarterly basis. Please note the exemption for retail food establishments/restaurants and small stores (a store that operates solely in Colorado and has 3 or fewer locations). A franchise is not exempt. Please note, the bag fee is not subject to sales tax.

PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2016, a $25 filing fee was implemented. As provided in the Englewood Municipal Code Title 4 Municipal Finances and Taxation and Title 5 Business and License Regulations, a paper filing fee of $25.00 for each remittance or license application received in paper format and processed in-office will be imposed. |

Please Note: 3.8% Sales and Use Tax Rate Effective January 1, 2023: Retail Sales Tax A 3.8% Sales Tax is charged on all sales in the City of Englewood except groceries. For definition purposes, a sale includes the sale, lease or rental of tangible personal property. All businesses operating in the City must obtain a Sales and Use Tax License.

Use Tax: The City also has a 3.8% Use Tax. All businesses in the City of Englewood are liable for the 3.8% tax on the tangible personal property used or consumed in their business. This includes purchases and leases of equipment, materials, supplies, etc. that are not resold or remanufactured by you. If your vendor has collected the 3.8% municipal sales tax, your liability has been satisfied. If the vendor did not collect the 3.8% from you, your business is required to pay the tax directly to the City of Englewood.

Other Englewood Taxes
- Building Materials Use Tax: The City's Sales Tax shall not apply to the sale of construction and building materials (as defined in section 29-2-109, C.R.S.) if such materials are picked up by the purchaser and if the purchaser of such materials presents to the retailer a building permit or other documentation acceptable to the City showing that a local use tax has been paid or is required to be paid.
- Lodging Tax: A 2% Englewood Lodging Tax applies to all lodging services, including short-term rentals less than 30 days. This tax is in addition to the 3.8% City Sales Tax.
